Supporting societies to share their stories

01 December 2022

The World Union of Wound Healing Society (WUWHS) Supporting Society project aimed to bring society-related wound care initiatives to the foreground and allow societies from different environments to learn from each other. We have identified many small initiatives by some societies that have led to great outcomes, and which were not too expensive or logistically difficult to implement. These grassroot initiatives, overlooked by many, are the gems we have tried to bring to the fore to become part of the formal evidence base, and to ease knowledge transfer at the level of care of patients with wounds.

A major driver of this initiative was the concept of ‘reverse innovation’. More often than not, clinicians in large healthcare settings are required to follow existing guidelines and procedures to the letter due to accreditation or policy restrictions in a particular setting. Evidence-based care is the main aim for all, but often at the expense of creativity and innovation in idea generation due to strict guideline adherence policies. This is where ‘reverse innovation’ comes into the picture.
