We wouldn't have had it any other way

01 June 2023

The current executive board of the World Union of Wound Healing Societies (WUWHS) had a wonderful face-to-face meeting at the 14th Abu Dhabi Wound Conference in March 2023. It was a welcome break from the electronic forums we had to use during the COVID-19 pandemic and the masked appearances we had to maintain for the 2022 WUWHS Congress. At this most recent board meeting, it was time to reflect on initiatives launched by the 2022 WUWHS Congress and to decide what needs to continue going forward.

A major success was the addition of more wound care societies into the WUWHS fold, ensuring greater representation of member societies from across the world. We are proud to say that we have expanded the number of countries from each continent, with at least one society representing each one. This expansion helps ensure WUWHS' continued relevance for years to come, with its continuing growth and the positive impacts that brings. Some continents do have more supporting societies than others and that is where work still needs to be done. According to the WUWHS' charter, each country is allowed to have two societies as active supporting societies of WUWHS. Those with a population number exceeding 300 million are allowed to have three supporting societies. As we are now focusing on the next WUWHS Congress to be held in Kuala Lumpur in 2026, this is the opportune time for those eligible societies, not yet part of the WUWHS fold, to join. Applications will remain open until August 2025 and will close for membership admission one year before the next WUWHS Congress. Details of the application process are available on the website (www.wuwhs2022.com) and we welcome these applications being put forward to the executive board for approval.
