Bid from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine

Abstract

The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine sets out its bid for the WUWHS 2026 Congress to be held in Miami, US.

Over the past 30 years, in my role as a chair of the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC) Spring and Fall meetings, I have been dedicated to advancing wound care through education. One of my overarching goals is for the field of wound healing to evolve into an organised field of medicine, delivering high-quality, evidenced-based care throughout the world.

The SAWC is only part of my commitment to evolving wound care education globally. I have also helped organise a smaller research-based meeting, Innovations in Wound Healing (IWH). The goal of this meeting is to expand the field by providing a platform for innovative research and discovery. Additionally, I serve as chair of the Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (UM). We educate 22–25 residents, 30–40 fellows and 200 medical students, annually. At UM we have the only university-based master's program in dermatology in the US, which includes a significant amount of information on wound healing and science. Furthermore, through my own research (>550 publications) and the research we perform in our department, we educate and advance care. Table 1 lists current and former UM alumni impactful in wound healing.
